A justice of the peace in Louisiana is in hot water after he refused to grant a marriage license to an interracial couple. At this point the governor is asking for him to be fired.
In addition to the fact that he is not abiding by the law, despite his own personal opinions, he is tenaciousness holding on to his belief that he is not racist:
"I'm not a racist," Bardwell told the newspaper. "I do ceremonies for black couples right here in my house. My main concern is for the children."
Bardwell, stressing that he couldn't personally endorse the marriage, said his wife referred the couple to another justice of the peace.
The best quote in the article was given by the bride to be:
"We would like him to resign," she said. "He doesn't believe he's being racist, but it is racist."
Of course, if some people get their way, once these people do get married, it will be for life.
