Schwarzenegger tells legislature off (warning: real obscenity)

Schwarzenegger tells legislature off
Tell me how you really feel, Governor. It's a little more subtle than Cheney, but not subtle enough.

Honestly, it's a little funny. And at least he's not advocating torture.

Man in tan hoodie wanted in oxycontin theft

rush in tan hoodie
There was a local theft of Oxycontin here recently:
Chattanooga police search for clues in the bold robbery of prescription painkiller from a local pharmacy.

Investigators say the hold-up of the Rite Aid Pharmacy at 5441 Highway 153 happened around 8pm Monday night. Employees say a white male jumped the pharmacy counter and brandished a small silver pocket knife. He demanded all of the Oxycontin in the pharmacy. After getting the medication, he jumped the counter and fled the store.

The article went on to say the man was wearing a tan hoodie. It's interesting the only drug he wanted was Oxycontin. Has anyone checked on Rush's whereabouts recently?

(Sorry, Rush. Just having some fun.)

Oh, Glenn Beck - is there no crazy you can't make your own? I would find Mr. Beck nothing more than an entertaining talking head as vacant as his missing attributions or links to facts, if not for his large following. How can so many people not realize how far from reality this guy is? Oh, that's right. I forgot.

Fortunately for this crazy Stephen Colbert is there to own it with him.

Department of justice softens on marijuana

department of justice loves marijuana

The New York Times is reporting that the Department of Justice will not prosecute for medical marijuana.
People who use marijuana for medical purposes and those who distribute it to them should not face federal prosecution, provided they act according to state law, the Justice Department said Monday in a directive with far-reaching political and legal implications.

In a memorandum to federal prosecutors in the 14 states that make some allowance for the use of marijuana for medical purposes, the department said that it was committed to the “efficient and rational use” of its resources and that prosecuting patients and distributors who are in “clear and unambiguous compliance” with state laws did not meet that standard.

I'm sure Bill Maher will love this. And it's not like the green leaf doesn't fill the coffers that are sadly empty. Whether you're for it or against it, you have to wonder where it will lead. Hopefully it will be a positive thing.

At least we won't be trying people federally that were hired by the state without letting the jury know those kind of crucial details. So, at least that's something positive.

For those that cite cnn bias...

I've heard the conspiracy theories about CNN and other news organizations having a liberal bias by friends, family, and just in general. I have to say, I don't see it. I do see bias in the media but not on CNN.

Now, don't get me wrong, I see that CNN likes to feature stories, but it is more to draw viewership and not for an particular agenda. But, at the same time, I see patterns like this and I can understand why people would say there is a bias.

In a single week, CNN featured on it's front page links to the following stories:

And these were just two of several.

I wonder what current policies the government might be discussing that would make these stories come front and center. It does make you scratch your head and wonder.

Hillary more liked than obama

hillary clinton
Politics is a fickle bitch: you can run on change, do nothing, get a Nobel Peace Prize for it, and then be less popular than your secretary of state.

It's no surprise. Obama's ratings have been slipping for a while per Rasmussen Reports:
obama approval
It would be nice, though, if instead of getting awards, spending money, and pushing programs that will cost more, we actually made some real change. That may sway a fickle public. Of course, public opinion shouldn't matter, especially since some will always form their opinions on their viewpoint instead of on fact. Still, making some wise, long term decisions would go a long way.

Interracial marriage refused

interracial marriage

A justice of the peace in Louisiana is in hot water after he refused to grant a marriage license to an interracial couple. At this point the governor is asking for him to be fired.

In addition to the fact that he is not abiding by the law, despite his own personal opinions, he is tenaciousness holding on to his belief that he is not racist:
"I'm not a racist," Bardwell told the newspaper. "I do ceremonies for black couples right here in my house. My main concern is for the children."

Bardwell, stressing that he couldn't personally endorse the marriage, said his wife referred the couple to another justice of the peace.

The best quote in the article was given by the bride to be:
"We would like him to resign," she said. "He doesn't believe he's being racist, but it is racist."

Of course, if some people get their way, once these people do get married, it will be for life.

Ignorance vs stupidity

Non Sequitur
How true it is. Surveys show we have stupid people. And ratings show talking heads have audiences.

What does that say about us? That we would rather be entertained than informed, but we would rather pretend we're doing both.

Obama's prize - a little early

obama nobel peace prize
Obama received a Nobel Peace Prize. I'm not quite sure for what. Perhaps hope. Or Change.

Don't get me wrong, he may be deserving of one. One day. Yet today we still have a poor economy and a health care plan going nowhere. Again, he may be worthy of it one day, but until then, it just becomes fodder for critical or related stories.

The federal department of good luck with that

How true it is. Non Sequitur really brings some good ones which is probably why the strip has so many fantastic books.

It seems our government gave up bi-partisanship a long time ago. It's a shame, really, because you know the rest of the world is watching us - especially England.

Michael moore - capitalism has proven it's failed

capitalism a love story
It seems Micheal Moore has another movie coming out about Capitalism. I always find that Michael has some interesting thoughts to bring to the table even if the way he brings it isn't always fair and balanced. In a recent sit down with Larry King, he proved this time to be no exception.
King: Are you saying capitalism is a failure?

Moore: Yes. Capitalism. Yes. Well, I don't have to say it. Capitalism, in the last year, has proven that it's failed. All the basic tenets of what we've talked about the free market, about free enterprise and competition just completely fell apart. As soon as they lost, essentially, our money, they came running to the federal government for a bailout -- for welfare, for socialism. And I thought the basic principle of capitalism was that it's a sink-or-swim situation.

That's a very solid point. This bailout wasn't capitalism: it was socialism. Yet so many that were involved in these bailouts oppose socialism.

I've been a firm believer of consistency: I'm not so concerned what side of the aisle you are on, just as long as you stay on that side when the roles are reversed. If you can't then your position is faulty.

Thanks for the brain food, Mike. Good stuff.
