Texas gay marriage ban may ban all marriages

texas gay marriage ban
They said gay marriage would spoil it for the rest of it... and they were right. (Okay, I stole that line from Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me)

It appears lawmakers in Texas just nullified marriage entirely trying to nullify attempts at gay marriage. Oops.

I wonder if they will create an animal protection bill that makes people kick puppies.

Victim in fatal car accident tragically not glenn beck

Glenn Beck, that bastion of crazy that we can't get enough of. What would like be without him? Well, The Onion explores the opposite: "why are we stuck with him?", in this humorous spoof.

It's not the same as Colbert solidarity, but it's still fun.

Political bobble head iphone app rejected

nancy pelosi
Last summer Tom Richmond, one of Mad Magazine's top illustrators and two-time winner of the National Caricaturist Network's "Caricaturist of the Year" award, began drawing a likeness of every Senator and Representative in the 111th Congress — 540 caricatures in all, including non-voting members from Puerto Rico, Guam, etc.

The idea, he explains, was to create an illustrated database for the iPhone and iPod touch that would allow users to find the name, party affiliation, phone number and website of their senators and congresspeople via zipcode or GPS. Each head was placed on one of 12 cartoon bodies and would bobble when shaken or flicked with a finger.

This is just kind of bizzare: Apple rejected an iPhone app because it mocked public figures. Weird. That's my job.

Is no one else seeing the unemployment roller coaster?

roller coaster
Here it is again - Jobless claims fall:
New claims for unemployment insurance fell more than expected last week, evidence the job market is slowly healing as the economy recovers.

Still, many analysts worry the nation could be in for a "jobless recovery" as the unemployment rate rises despite some overall economic growth.

The Labor Department said Thursday that first-time claims for jobless benefits dropped to a seasonally adjusted 502,000 from an upwardly revised 514,000 the previous week. That's the fewest claims since the week ending Jan. 3, and below economists' estimates.

It seems every Thursday, like clockwork, we get good news about unemployment, and then the next day it's bad. I covered this unemployment roller coaster, showed how the unemployment ups and downs show up like clockwork, and even used the Thursday good news about unemployment to predict what happens Friday with unemployment.

Am I the only one seeing this?

Political HumorHealth Care Crisis

Jon Stewart and team at the Daily Show have outdone themselves with this Glenn Beck parody. This is spot on.

I cannot fathom how anyone can watch this guy for anything other than the humor factor. I have to remind myself that at least 25% of the population is insane (actually that number would have to be 50%: 25% from the right and 25% from the left and then the rest of us that make up our mind by the facts).

Unemployment Pattern Continues:
For those who have been following the blog, once again, just as I predicted, bad news on unemployment came out Friday:
The unemployment rate has surpassed 10 percent for the first time since 1983 — and is likely to go higher.

Nearly 16 million people can't find jobs even though the worst recession since the Great Depression has apparently ended. Many economists worry that persistently high unemployment could undermine the recovery by restraining consumer spending, which accounts for 70 percent of the economy.

The Labor Department said Friday that jobless rate rose to 10.2 percent, the highest since April 1983, from 9.8 percent in September. The economy shed a net total of 190,000 jobs in October, less than the downwardly revised 219,000 lost in September, but more than economists expected.

CNN would do itself a favor to read my blog.

We know what's coming tomorrow

job fair
Watch out! Today there is good news about unemployment.
U.S. business productivity in the third quarter grew at the fastest pace in six years and new claims for jobless aid fell to a 10-month low last week, indicating the decline in labor market may be hitting bottom.

The Labor Department said on Thursday productivity surged at a 9.5 percent annual rate, the quickest pace since the third quarter of 2003, as companies squeezed more output from a smaller pool of labor to cut costs.

Since this is Thursday, it can only mean that we will see bad job news tomorrow just like the last time and the time before that.

Let's hope this time this will be a statistic that will be positive for Obama.
